What an L2 display means
L2 stands for low or no line voltage. Maytag says it may point to a problem with the power supply in the home. The effect is that the heater is unable to turn on, yet the dryer itself carries on running while the code shows. Touching any pad clears the message and takes the display back to the estimated time remaining. Maytag also notes that this error shows only during the initial installation.
Why a tripped breaker matters
An electric dryer draws from two fuses or breakers. One circuit feeds the motor that turns the drum and the other feeds the heating element, so if either has blown or tripped the dryer may not heat.
Checks from Maytag’s help pages
- Look for a blown household fuse or a tripped breaker, and check both.
- Unplug the dryer, then make sure the power cord is installed as the installation instructions show and the terminal screws are tight.
- Power cycle it: breakers off for 5 minutes, back on, then a timed dry cycle watched for 5 minutes to see whether L2 returns.
- Choose a Timed Dry heated cycle and restart.
Commercial version of the dryer
The commercial dryer page shortens the reset to 1 minute with the breaker off and also suggests a Timed Dry heated cycle.
If L2 will not go away
Have a qualified electrician verify the electrical supply. The dryer needs a 240-volt supply on its own 30-amp circuit, fused on both sides.
