VERIFIED
ES is not a malfunction. On some Maytag range models it stands for Energy Save, and on some displays the same message is written E5.
Why the display goes dark
Energy Save lets the clock and control rest, keeping power draw low by switching the display off whenever the range is unused. Leave a range alone for 5 minutes with just the time of day visible and it shows ES, then On two times, before the screen turns blank.
Bringing the display back
Touch a key such as Bake or Broil, or swing the oven door open. After that, the controls answer normally again.
Turning Energy Save on and off
Activating
- Start with the oven and control idle and the time of day showing.
- Hold CLOCK down for 10 seconds.
- A beep sounds, ES appears with On twice, and the time of day comes back.
Deactivating
- Hold CLOCK down for 10 seconds once more.
- ES appears with Off twice.
- Any key press restores the time of day.
For more on this, read the Electronic Oven Controls section of the Owner’s Manual.
ES that will not go away
Take the breaker(s) off for one minute and put them back on. Give the oven a minute of monitoring, then verify that it operates.
Codes people confuse with ES
- C81: an overheated cooktop message with its own cool-down steps.
- F0 E0: an oven control code, handled by resetting power first.
Maytag range service in San Francisco
If the display still acts oddly after the steps above, a technician can check the range anywhere in San Francisco or the Bay Area. Open Maytag range repair or call (415) 649-2156, and say whether ES or E5 appears, what the model number is and which of the steps you already tried.
Model compatibility: Maytag reuses codes across series and model years, so ES, E5 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
