The H2O light is a filter indicator
It is not a fault in the usual sense. Maytag’s help articles, written for side-by-side and French door refrigerators, treat the H2O light as the water filter status light, and the question to ask first is whether the filter is due.
Signs the filter needs changing
- The status light has turned red.
- Water flow has dropped.
- Ice production has dropped.
- For French door models, Maytag also gives an interval: change the filter at least every six months, or as needed depending on water quality and use.
The French door article adds that a clogged filter, or one that was installed incorrectly, can reduce the water reaching the ice maker and the dispenser.
Turning the light off after a change
- Install the new filter.
- Press and hold the LIGHT and ICE TYPE buttons together for three seconds.
- Check that the status light has gone off, which shows the system has been reset.
If the problem is still there
When the light stays on after a filter change and reset, or water and ice stay low, the next step is a technician visit.
More display codes
- Flashing F is a blinking letter on the display, cleared with a power reset.
- PO reports a past power outage and is dismissed by pressing a button on the display.
Refrigerator repair for the Bay Area
If the filter is new and the H2O light or the ice supply still misbehaves, our San Francisco technicians can take it from there. See Maytag refrigerator repair or call (415) 649-2156, and mention the model number and when the filter was last replaced.
Model compatibility: Maytag reuses codes across series and model years, so H2O Light may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
