Maytag Cooktop F4 Error Code

VERIFIED

Error code F4
Appliance Cooktop

What triggers F4

Maytag lists F4 for electric and induction cooktops. The display is reacting to a pot or pan that has been placed too near the control panel, so the first work is on the cookware, not on the electrical side.

Step by step

  1. Look at where the pot or pan sits. It should be centered within the surface cooking area, and nothing hot should be lying on the touch control panel.
  2. Take the pot or pan off the cooktop altogether.
  3. Give the control panel five minutes so it can clear.
  4. Turn the cooktop’s breaker(s) off and leave them that way for one minute.
  5. Turn the breaker(s) back on.
  6. Remain with the cooktop for a minute to check that F4 has not returned.
  7. Run the cooktop and confirm it operates properly.

When F4 stays on the display

If the code is still there after the whole sequence, the cooktop needs a technician visit. Repeating the reset again and again will not change the outcome.

Codes that resemble F4

  • F40 is a touchpad, power control board or wiring message, not a cookware one.
  • F25 is another code that uses the one-minute breaker reset.
  • F56 concerns the touchpad or its wiring.

Cooktop service for San Francisco homes

If F4 will not clear, our Maytag cooktop repair page covers visits in San Francisco and around the Bay Area. Dial (415) 649-2156 with the model number, the exact code on the display and a note of how far you got through the steps above, including the five-minute wait.

Model compatibility: Maytag reuses codes across series and model years, so F4 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
