F4 E2 is Maytag’s way of pointing at the heating system on a dishwasher. The support page answers with one troubleshooting step, a power reset, and with a follow-up if that does not settle it.
The control has to stay without power for a full 30 seconds. A dishwasher with a plug: pull it from the outlet, count to 30, and push it back in. A hard-wired dishwasher: switch its breaker off at the home panel, wait the same 30 seconds, switch it on. Look at the display again. If F4 E2 is back, the next step is a technician visit.
The technical manual has its own entry, F4E2, spelled without the space: the heater is open, unplugged, or has a failed relay. For the sister heating message see F4 E3, and for a sensor message that is sometimes confused with heater trouble see F3E2, a thermistor or OWI that failed calibration.
