The washer is not getting rid of its water
F9 E1 appears on front load and top load Maytag washers. The checks differ a little by layout, so find your type below.
Top load washers
The water level fails to change once the drain pump has started.
- Look at how far the drain hose reaches down the standpipe. If it passes the elbow it goes in too far, which allows siphoning and can bring slow spinning or none at all.
- Keep the hose in its original shape, and never tape it to the drain pipe.
- Take the kinks out of the hose and remove anything blocking the drainpipe or the utility sink.
Front load washers
A drain cycle that lasts beyond about 8 minutes triggers the code.
| Item | What Maytag says |
|---|---|
| Hose condition | Free of kinks and clogs, shaped with the U-shaped drain hose form. |
| Hose end | Reaches 4.5″ (113 mm) at most into the drainpipe or laundry tub; any deeper and drained water can siphon back. |
| Hose seal | No tape around the joint. Hold it secure but loose, leaving room for air. |
| Standpipe | 96″ at most, 39″ at least. |
| Drain pump filter | Some models: clean the filter found behind the bottom dispenser drawer. |
| Door seal (bellow) | Small drain holes inside the seal can clog and need cleaning. |
| Detergent | HE only, since extra suds slow draining. |
