What F8 E1 is telling you
The washer senses less water arriving than it should. Maytag shows the same problem as Lo FL on some displays and as LF on top load machines, and describes it as a fill that is taking too long. It applies to front load and top load washers.
Door locked and buttons dead
With this code the door can stay locked while the control ignores the keypad. Pressing the power button sets off a drain routine of roughly 8 to 10 minutes, with the pump running throughout. Let that drain finish before you try anything else.
Supply checks, in order
- Turn both the hot and cold faucets or valves all the way open, and confirm both hoses are attached.
- Look for kinks in the inlet hoses.
- Match the colors: the red hose to the red hot valve, the blue hose to the blue cold valve.
- See whether an anti-flood device sits in the water line. These can lower the water pressure and the volume reaching the washer.
- Shut the water off, take the hoses off, and look at the inlet screens at the back of the inlet valve. Mineral build-up or debris can clog them. Scrub with a brush, mild soap and water, or replace the screens.
- Hold each loose hose over a sink and run water through it. If the stream is restricted, the hose should be replaced.
Drain standpipe height
Top load washers have one more thing to confirm. The top of the drain standpipe must stand at least 39 in (99 cm) above the floor. Anything lower lets water run out of the machine by gravity.
Clearing the display on a front load washer
Press Pause or Cancel two times, then Power one time.
Related fill and sensing codes
- F20 is a water inlet problem: no water, or too little supply.
- F3 E1 means the washer cannot read the water level.
- F3 E2 is a pressure system fault.
